Trimble Named Caltech Trustee

PASADENA, Calif. — Charles R. Trimble, cofounder and former president of Trimble Navigation, Ltd., has been named a new trustee of the California Institute of Technology. He brings with him over 30 years of business and engineering expertise.

Trimble retired as president in 1998 from Trimble Navigation, Ltd., a leading developer of commercial equipment utilizing the Global Positioning System.

Prior to his association with the navigational company, Trimble worked as manager of integrated circuit research and development at the Hewlett Packard Company.

He earned his bachelor's degree in engineering and applied science in 1963, his master's in electrical engineering in 1964, both from Caltech.

Throughout his career, Trimble has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Council on Foreign Relations, the NASA Advisory Council, the National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative, and the Silicon Valley Defense/Space Consortium. Trimble is also the chair of the United States Global Positioning System Industry Council.
