Olympic Bronze Medalist Anita DeFrantz to Speak at Caltech

PASADENA, Calif.-Olympic bronze medalist and International Olympic Committee member Anita DeFrantz will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the California Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 9. The event will take place in Braun Athletic Center, near the corner of Wilson Avenue and California Boulevard, starting with a public reception at 4 p.m., followed by the presentation from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Named one of the most powerful women in amateur sports, DeFrantz is an attorney and president of the Amateur Athletic Foundation. DeFrantz was elected to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1986, and in 1997 she became the organization's first female and first African American vice president. DeFrantz also serves as chairwoman of the IOC's Women and Sport Working Group.

DeFrantz was a member of the 1976 and 1980 U.S. Olympic teams, winning a bronze medal in rowing in 1976.
