Kitto Named to SCIAC First Team

Caltech freshman Rebekah Kitto has been named to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) First Team for women's tennis. She's the first Techer to earn the honor in four years. Kitto posted a 5-2 conference record and is ranked 19 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) west region.

Kitto and the rest of the women's tennis team ended conference play last Friday and Saturday at the SCIAC Championship Tournament, which was hosted by Caltech. Kitto won two of her singles matches, beating Claremont-McKenna's Victoria Santoro and La Verne's Lila Luna. Teaming up with fellow freshman Jessica Yu, the pair won their doubles match against Whittier. Sophomore Stephanie Kwan and junior Wubing Ye defeated La Verne in their doubles match.

Caltech lost to top-seed Claremont-McKenna in the first round 5-1. They also lost to Whittier in the second round, 8-1, and to La Verne in the final round, 7-2. But for the second consecutive season, the Beavers won the SCIAC Sportsmanship Award.

The men's tennis team also finished conference play at the SCIAC Championships, hosted by Occidental. Caltech lost both rounds, 5-0, to Pomona-Pitzer and 9-0 to Occidental. Next weekend, both tennis teams will travel to Ojai for the ITA tournament to conclude their seasons.
