Speaker's Bio:
Whitney Clavin is a science writer and media specialist at Caltech, covering physics, math, astronomy, social sciences, and humanities. She helps translate the complex science happening at Caltech into engaging stories for a range of audiences, from the general public to more technical readers. In 2016, she organized LIGO’s historic press conference, announcing the first direct detection of gravitational waves. Before coming to Caltech, she worked for 13 years in a similar position at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she covered several space missions, such as the Spitzer Space Telescope, and helped with media plans for Mars landings and other big space events. She has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from UC Davis, and a master’s degree in science journalism from NYU.

The third topic is in the series is Careers in Science Communication and Journalism, and features a panel of science communication experts, including a senior content and media strategist, co-editor, journalist, and producer.
