LETTER from the Dean

John HallDear Parents —

As the start of the 2008- 2009 academic year approaches, I look forward to another year of academic success for incoming and returning students. At Caltech, we believe parental support contributes to student success. In an effort to keep you involved with what is happening in your students' lives at Caltech, we are pleased to bring you another edition of our online Parent Newsletter.

If your student will be moving into student housing, I highly suggest you read Moving In and Holiday Break information by Institute Housing. It includes information on check-in and student contract dates. We also included an update from Caltech Dining Services, who will be sponsoring some very special events for students throughout the school year, including participating in the Olive Harvest Festival, themed dinners, and Midnight Madness during finals week.

Furthermore, we encourage you to check out some of the resources we offer students at Caltech. Our Health Educator shares valuable information on stress management, fitting exercise into a busy schedule, and creating and maintaining a healthy sleep schedule. The Caltech Counseling Center also offers a series of programs about coping with the transition to college. Last year, the Caltech Counseling Center offered 15 different programs in its Emotional Well-Being Series. The topics presented included talks on managing sleep, overcoming procrastination, online gaming, mindfulness, managing anxiety, increasing happiness and stress relief. We encourage you to check out the many resources and services Caltech has to offer.
